I was saddened to read on his Wikipedia page that Simon died a couple of years ago, aged only 66, no age these days to go. In 2016 I emailed him to say that the weekly bus service through our village in rural North Devon (UK) had recently ceased, although it still appeared on bus timetables. In no time I received a very nice reply from which it was obvious he had known the route, had travelled it, and was surprised it was no longer running! As I had mentioned having an interest in maths, his email also included a summary of a couple of math problems he was currently engaged on. But, knowing that if they taxed Simon to his limits they were far beyond my ability, I never really tried to pursue them.
